Serra Solar Power Plant, Supported by Development and Investment Bank of Türkiye, Begins Operations
The Bolayır Enerji – Serra Solar Power Plant, financed by Development and Investment Bank of Türkiye as it continues its support for renewable energy in line with Türkiye’s sustainable development objectives, has been completed.
Bolayır Enerji’s 5.6 MW Serra Solar Power Plant, established in the Akseki district of Antalya and financed by Development and Investment Bank of Türkiye, has begun generating electricity. The plant, comprising approximately 25,000 photovoltaic panels and a 1.5-kilometre transmission line, will generate 11,184,768 kWh of electricity annually.
Drawing attention to the distinct importance of every renewable energy project that reduces Türkiye’s imports and external dependence, Özgür Maraş, Executive Vice President of Development and Investment Bank of Türkiye responsible for Corporate Banking, Project Finance and IT, said: “Working for Türkiye’s sustainable development since 1975, our Bank continues its efforts to transform domestic and national resources into investment by supporting priority sectors that are internationally competitive and have strong employment potential, as indicated in the announced New Economy Programme. In renewable energy and energy-efficiency projects, which account for 54% of our loan portfolio, we monitor solar, geothermal, biogas and landfill-gas projects with great care and support their implementation. In Türkiye, solar power plants account for 6.76% of total installed electricity-generation capacity. As a Bank, we will stand by the energy sector to ensure this share increases further through investments in the coming years.”
Stating that, as of September 30, 2020, the Bank had provided approximately TRY 8.8 billion in loans to 286 renewable energy investment projects with total installed capacity of approximately 2,558 MW, Özgür Maraş said: “Through these investments, we contribute not only to combating climate change but also to improving urban air quality. Specifically in solar energy, Development and Investment Bank of Türkiye has financed a total of 171 solar power projects with installed capacity of 227 MW through the loans extended to date. Our country has significant potential for solar power plants, and we will continue supporting renewable energy generation, which makes a substantial long-term contribution to Türkiye.”
